The Position
We are looking for a Qualified Nursery Practitioner to join our Baby Room as a Room Leader.
Woodlands provides a rich, stimulating environment for children from 3 months to 5 years with a wealth of learning opportunities and unique natural resources that inspire children to reach their full potential. The candidate should have a fun, positive attitude, using their initiative and problem-solving skills to; deliver engaging activities, maintain a safe, stimulating environment, keep records and support the team in the smooth running of the daily routine. The ideal individual will be organised, kind, nurturing, enthusiastic and adaptable, understanding the importance of building positive relationships, continuing professional development and placing the unique child at the centre.
The Responsibilities
Working alongside the nursery staff team, under the direction of the Nursery Management team, the main role and responsibilities of the Room Leader are as follows;
Proactive and Supportive Team Leader
• Have good timekeeping and actively support/manage the team to ensure smooth running of daily routines
• Ensure team are kept well informed, this may involve organising regular meetings and organising staffing rotas.
• Be responsible for a group of children as a designated Key Worker and be responsible for the Room Team as the Room Leader
• Act as a positive role model and mentor, giving in-house training to new staff and student visitors to support them to learn the expectations and duties of the role. Offer support and guidance to the team, in a friendly, proactive way, leading by example.
Safe and Stimulating Environment
• Maintaining a high quality, inviting and stimulating environment, that caters for the individual needs of the children and promotes inclusivity with equitable opportunities
• To adhere to and implement the Nursery’s policies and procedures, the EYQSF and the EYFS. Ensuring the team are delivering this in their daily practice.
• Understand duty to safeguard the children and act upon any safeguarding concerns in a timely manner. Support the team to understand their safeguarding responsibilities and how to respond effectively/appropriately. Ensuring the safety and well-being of the children is protected at all times and responding as per company procedures in the event of an emergency. This may include administering First Aid.
Care and Education
• Using initiative and creativity to plan and deliver varied and interesting activities based on the children’s unique interests and needs. Follow an enquiry-based curriculum with learning through play. Ensuring the team are supported, given clear guidance and expectations for their contribution to delivering activities.
• Interacting with the children, engaging in and extending their play experiences. Imbedding the ethos of the nursery, the Reggio Emillia approach and the EYFS in practice.
• Attending to the care needs of the children at the nursery including: preparing snacks and meals, feeding, preparing and giving bottles, nappy changing, toothbrushing
• Working in collaboration and building positive relationships with children, parents/carers and other professionals to ensure children receive the best possible care, catered to their individual needs. Ensuring information is obtained and shared appropriately with confidentiality and in a sensitive, supportive manner.

Experience / Qualifications / Education
- Applicants must have at least 3 years experience of working with children under two years old.
- Qualified, Level 3 or above
- Right to Work (Guernsey)
- Valid Guernsey Housing Licence
