Working in Guernsey
Welcome to Guernsey, where career and lifestyle unite!
Simplified residency and career opportunities
Guernsey makes it easy to find a place to live. The island offers two types of housing: Local Market and Open Market. Local Market homes are available to residents who qualify locally or have an Employment Permit. Open Market properties, generally more luxurious, are accessible to British or EEA passport holders or those with Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK. Whether you're looking for a long-term residence or a temporary stay, Guernsey has the perfect home for you
For professionals you’ll need an Employment permit
If you're considering moving to Guernsey for work, the Employment Permit system facilitates a smooth transition for those in specialised roles. Here’s how it works:
Short-Term Employment Permit (STEP)
Issued for up to one year, renewable for up to three consecutive years, after which a break in residence is required. STEP holders must live with a householder.
Seasonal Employment Permit (SEP)
Issued for nine months with a required three-month break afterward. This cycle can be repeated indefinitely. SEP holders must also live with a householder.
Long-Term Employment Permit (LTEP)
Valid for up to eight years, allowing holders to be householders in the Local Market and bring their immediate family. LTEP can lead to permanent residency based on duration and immigration status.
Applying for Employment Permits
The Island’s Employment Permit policy notes the types of job roles that are usually awarded employment permits, the length of the permit, and skill set required, these can only be applied for by a Guernsey employer, so securing a job in Guernsey with a permit is essential.
Positions offering permits can be found through various job portals and recruitment agencies. Here are some useful links to help you on your way:
