The Position

GCS is a Guernsey charity that arranges access to basic banking services for islanders who cannot open a bank account in the normal way. Our vision is that no-one in the Bailiwick will be financially excluded from being part of their community. We also offer financial management guidance to those who need it. As well as facilitating new clients, providing an efficient, friendly and professional service to the client base is a core aim. 

The position is largely office-based, part-time, remunerated and reports to the Chief Executive.  The office team is small and therefore flexibility to support all core tasks and work closely with colleagues is a key requirement. 

The role is part time between 10 – 14 hours per week and receives a salary rate of £20 per hour.

The Responsibilities

Key responsibilities 

  • Looks after day-to-day office operational matters 
  • Supports the maintenance of office IT and operational systems  
  • Looks after the day-to-day banking needs including Revenue Service returns and Secondary Pension payments 
  • Supports the review and maintenance of GCS policies and procedures 
  • Supports adherence with all applicable laws, regulations and guidance, including in respect of AML/CFT 
  • Works closely with the Client Lead in supporting the needs of new and existing clients, including budgeting advice and supporting training delivery  
  • Manages and maintains the loans programme 
  • Supports social media activities 

Experience / Qualifications / Education

Candidates should have: 

  • A desire to assist the disadvantaged in our community and a sympathetic approach to supporting them 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly and at an appropriate level  
  • Ability to build rapport with clients and resolve issues in a calm, efficient manner with empathy and patience  
  • A practical and effective approach to problem solving 
  • Good levels of literacy and numeracy with attention to detail 
  • A good level of competence in technology and online systems including Microsoft Office 
  • Excellent organisational skills 
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment 
  • Experience and good understanding of banking or financial services would be helpful
