The Position

 Join the team at Youth Commission for Guernsey and Alderney as a Part Time, Term Time Only HR Advisor. This is a great opportunity for an experienced HR professional who is passionate about people and wants to support a values-driven organisation making a difference for children and young people across the Bailiwick. The role will provide day-to-day HR support across recruitment, employee relations, wellbeing, policies and staff development, helping us maintain a positive and supportive workplace culture. The Responsibilities

  • Employee Relations - Provide first‑line advice on conduct, capability, grievances, wellbeing, and performance, ensuring issues are resolved early and fairly.
  • Recruitment & Onboarding - Coordinate end‑to‑end hiring for staff and volunteers, including safer recruitment checks, interviews, and induction.
  • Safeguarding Compliance - Work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead to ensure HR processes align with safer‑working practices, DBS checks, and training requirements.
  • Policy Development - Maintain and update HR policies, ensuring compliance with UK employment law and charity‑sector standards.
  • Learning & Development - Support training plans, including safeguarding, youth‑work skills, management development, and volunteer training.
  • HR Administration - Oversee accurate record‑keeping, contracts, HRIS updates, absence tracking, and reporting.
  • Culture & Wellbeing - Promote a positive, inclusive culture that reflects the charity’s values and supports staff mental health and resilience.
  • Volunteer Support - Provide HR guidance tailored to volunteers, including onboarding, recognition, and issue resolution.
  • Data & Reporting - Produce HR metrics for leadership, trustees, and funders, supporting evidence‑based decision‑making.


Experience / Qualifications / Education

  • CIPD Level 5 or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of employment law and HR best practice.
  • Experience supporting managers with employee relations cases.
  • Knowledge of safer recruitment and safeguarding principles.
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
