The Position

This role is intended to support families while they are going through challenging times. The role focuses on improving the well-being of children and their caregivers by helping families build resilience, develop positive routines, and access appropriate services.  

The Responsibilities

  • You will have a genuine interest in building supportive relationships and a drive to understand how best to help others deal with the impact of serious illness and/or bereavement.  
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Proven organisational skills. 
  • Grade C or above in both GCSE Maths and English.  
  • Proven ability to contribute to work as part of a team as well as the ability to use own initiative and work independently. 
  • Experience of working with children and young people in an informal setting.  
  • Driving licence 

Experience and Qualifications (desirable)  

  • Professional Qualification i.e. nursing, social work, education.  
  • To be prepared to study towards a relevant academic or counselling course.  


Experience / Qualifications / Education

  • To work directly with children and young people aged 5 to 18 years who are experiencing a loved one with a serious illness and/or a bereavement through one to one and group work.  
  • Provide information, advice and support to families.  
  • To work in a flexible and respectful way with families in times of crisis.  
  • Liaise and communicate with professionals from multi-agency settings and work in a collaborative way. Both the Navigators service and Home-Start work in a multi-agency approach and have close links with health services, education, social care services and other third sector organisations.  
  • To hold Home-Start cases and support families to identify their needs and tailor a plan for the individual family.  
  • To liaise with volunteers who also support families, ensuring that they have a timely response to any questions.
