The Position

The Lead Electrician will supervise, plan works and act as mentor to tradesmen, apprentices and other colleagues together with overseeing the work of sub-contractors. The lead will also carry out electrical installations, repairs and maintenance works of their own. They will ensure works are carried out to a high standard, in a safe, efficient and effective manner providing a superior customer experience and a high degree of commercial focus.

The Responsibilities

1.     The planning, installation, maintenance, testing and repair of a diverse range of electrical and heating systems in industrial, commercial and domestic premises.  
2.     Leading and motivating colleagues and assisting in the efficient allocation and execution of work.  
3.     To ensure projects are carried out in an efficient manner and be responsible for the safety, technical standard and quality of electrical and plumbing work completed under their supervision.  
4.     To carry out the on-site supervision of electricians, plumbers, apprentices and sub-contractors.  
5.     Carry out H&S duties to implement current law and company policies.  
6.     To liaise with customers, manufacturers, suppliers, designers and sub-contractors on design, installation and maintenance issues.  
7.     Inspect work on site, test and commission installations, sign off test certificates and carry out the duties of a NICEIC Qualified Supervisor.  
8.     To visit customers advising on works required and assist in the production of quotations and project evaluations.  
9.     To promote the company and all its service offerings and provide customers with advice on the systems installed and how to operate in an efficient way.  
10.  To ensure the standard of workmanship meets or exceeds statutory requirements.  
11.  To assist in the supervision and effective training of apprentices.  
12.  To undertake out-of-hours emergency call-out duties as required.  
13.  Be aware of and comply with local legislation, specifically related to Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities and Data Protection.  
14.  Such other duties as may be allocated, and interchange of duties as required.  
15.  Demonstrate the core values and behaviours of Guernsey Electricity Limited.  
16.  Carry out annual appraisals and quarterly reviews of their team. 

Experience / Qualifications / Education

  • Completed a formal apprenticeship, qualified to a minimum standard of NVQ level 3 in electrical installation works or equivalent
  • To have gained or working towards Technician Membership of The Institution of Engineering and Technology (TMIET)
  • Must be able to demonstrate considerable experience in electrical installation and maintenance work and a good working knowledge of the current IET Regulations
  • Hold or working towards Qualified Supervisor status with the NICEIC
  • Ability to communicate and manage people effectively; continually improving the performance of direct reports by providing feedback, mentoring and coaching
  • Commercial awareness 
  • Hold a current category ‘B’ driving licence
  • Basic computer skills
  • To ensure concise & accurate job notes and time allocation is correctly recorded on the field working system. 
  • A pleasant and friendly outlook with a positive customer focus
  • Awareness of health & safety management
  • Demonstrates a current knowledge of the functional structure of Guernsey Electricity, its mission, objectives, strategies, and critical success factors
