The Position

We are a well-established gardening & landscaping business, delivering high-quality services to both residential and commercial clients. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Operations Manager to join our management team.

This is a varied and hands-on role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the business, managing customer enquiries and quotations, coordinating works from enquiry through to completion, and ensuring high standards of quality and customer satisfaction across all teams.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Directors and Office Manager to improve efficiency, support team development, increase quote conversion rates and help drive the business forward.

The Responsibilities

Operations & Project Management

  • Manage the day-to-day scheduling and coordination of gardening, landscaping and fencing works.
  • Organise labour, machinery, materials and subcontractors to ensure projects run efficiently.
  • Monitor progress of jobs and ensure works are completed on time and to a high standard.
  • Work closely with the Office Manager to maintain an effective schedule and maximise team productivity.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Assist Directors in developing systems and processes to support business growth.

Client Site Visits & Quotations

  • Conduct client site visits for gardening, landscaping and fencing enquiries.
  • Prepare accurate quotations and estimates for proposed works.
  • Follow up quotations with prospective clients and convert opportunities into confirmed work.
  • Build strong relationships with customers and provide professional advice throughout the sales process.
  • Maintain accurate records of enquiries, quotations and project updates.

Quality Control & Team Development

  • Carry out regular site visits to ensure work is completed to company standards.
  • Monitor quality across all teams and address any issues promptly.
  • Support team leaders and operatives with guidance, coaching and performance management.
  • Assist with identifying training needs and staff development opportunities.
  • Promote a positive working culture focused on quality, professionalism and customer service.

Customer Service

  • Act as a key point of contact for customers throughout their project.
  • Handle customer queries, concerns and complaints professionally and effectively.
  • Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and encourage repeat business and referrals.

Business Performance

  • Work closely with Directors and the Office Manager to achieve company targets.
  • Monitor key performance indicators including quotation conversion, productivity and job performance.
  • Assist in improving operational processes and profitability across all service areas.


Experience / Qualifications / Education

Essential

  • Previous experience in an Operations Manager, Contracts Manager, Project Manager, Team Leader or similar management role.
  • Experience managing people, teams or operational activities.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of delivering profitable work.
  • Full clean driving licence.

Desirable

  • Experience within landscaping, gardening, construction, grounds maintenance or a related industry.
  • Experience carrying out site surveys, preparing quotations or estimating works.
  • Knowledge of scheduling, resource planning and project coordination.
  • Experience dealing directly with customers and managing client relationships.
  • Understanding of quality control and team development.
  • Relevant qualifications in management, construction, horticulture or related fields.
