The Position

Partner with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives, provide financial insights, and ensure alignment between financial and operational objectives.  To provide invaluable Finance Business Partner support to a portfolio of key functional profit and cost centres, resulting in the two-way improvement in understanding, forecasting, budgeting, decision-making and analysis of financial performance of the business.

The Responsibilities

Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities: 

1.       To work with a portfolio of key cost and profit centre teams around the business to ensure correct business process adherence resulting in reliable performance reporting providing financial excellence across business to ensure financial and operational alignment.  

2.       Immerse oneself into assigned business teams sufficiently to understand and provide support over relevant processes with impact on finances.  Initial partnership areas to include Network, Distribution, GNS, Streetlighting, Stock, Stores & Logistics. 

3.       Extracting, managing and interpreting data from multiple finance and non-finance systems, enabling the timely production of management information reports and analysis where required to assist in. Ensure delivery of insightful, accurate and timely business and financial analysis where required.

4.       Best Practice: Develop, share and implement finance best practice across performance reporting, analysis and decision support to deliver greater insight and simplify/standardise business processes.

5.       Strategies: Pro-actively contribute to the development and implementation of the Company's strategic goals and aims.

6.       Variance Analysis: Monitor spending by relevant Departments to ensure that costs are correctly recorded, pre-empted, accrued and that cost/profit centres are working within budget.

7.       Group Reporting (IPSAS):  Provide intercompany analysis and reporting for States of Guernsey annual group reporting purposes (and monthly reconciliations when introduced). 

8.       GNS: Prepare and present monthly management accounts and performance reports for GNS (Network Services) team.
9.       Financial Modelling: Provide assistance where required in the continuous development and improvement of the Company's short and longer-­term financial modelling, in order to inform and support key business decision making eg capital sanction business case preparation.
10.       Budgets & Forecasts: Assist the FP&A Lead & Senior Analyst in the production of the annual budget/rolling forecast of the business and to deliver summary analysis of actual results against budget.

11.       Inventory provisions: To calculate monthly stock provisions and investigate rolling stock-count discrepancies with relevant cost centre managers.  Communicate any G/L adjustments to Financial Control team (retaining segregation of duties controls).  

12.       Streetlighting: Analysis and calculations for contracts (not issuance of bills).   

13.       Year-end: To assist the Finance Team with the financial reporting, in particular year end works.  

14.       External Parties: To co-ordinate the production of information and explanations to external stakeholders for compliance, regulatory and auditing purposes.

15.       Efficiencies: Cross-function Actively champion cross functional initiatives to improve efficiency.

16.       ERP: Support and champion the on-going development of the utility business system (UMAX) across the business and leverage the system to produce and utilise relevant business information effectively and efficiently.

17.       Special projects: Contribution in special projects from the Directors, the Head of Finance, and other managers across the business.

18.   Internal & External Audit: To act as a contact for external auditors during statutory and group audit process. To assist the Finance Team with the financial reporting, in particular year end works.   

19.   General Ledger: To assist in the timely, complete and accurate recording of accounting transactions and the adherence of financial controls including the segregation of duties. 

20.   Management Accounting: To assist prepare and present monthly, quarterly and annual financial performance and quarterly reforecasting. 

21.   Budgets & Forecasts: To assist in the production of the annual plan/rolling forecasts and submit input in a timely, accurate and appropriate manner.

22.   Team Culture: Contribute to fostering a high-performance culture focused on continuous improvement and professional growth. 

23.   Regulatory Compliance: Ensure full compliance with all relevant financial regulations, standards, laws and internal policies, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of changes in the regulatory landscape.  

24.   Local Legislation: Be aware of and comply with local legislation, specifically related to Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities and Data Protection.

25.   Values & Behaviours: Demonstrate the core values and behaviours of Guernsey Electricity Limited.

26.   To carry out ad hoc financial projects as required.

27.   Such other duties as may be allocated, and interchange of duties as required.

Experience / Qualifications / Education

Key skills and personal Attributes:

  • Minimum of AAT/CAT qualification, but ACCA/CIMA preferable, or equivalent relevant years of management and/or financial accounting experience.
  • Experience of preparing management accounts.
  • A detailed understanding of the latest accounting standards, local company law and local taxation rules together with their application to Guernsey Electricity and its subsidiaries
  • Advanced IT skills. A minimum of intermediate or advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Proficiency of computerised ledger accounting system and ERP systems (preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365). 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with directors, management and staff at all levels
  • Demonstrate a current knowledge of the functional structure of Guernsey Electricity, its mission, objectives, strategies, and critical success factors
  • Ability to analyse and present numerical data effectively.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to work under own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines. 
  • Proactive and results-driven mindset.
