The Position

We are looking for someone who has a passion for providing young people with opportunities for outdoor education through The Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award scheme.

Supporting the DofE Manager with the day to day running of DofE which involves;

Assisting school coordinators and school pupils

Supporting volunteers as they engage with expeditions

Supporting and running expeditions (which involves traveling and camping)

Arranging trips at Bronze, Silver or Gold level.

Ensuring all paperwork is filed and recorded.

The Youth Commission are the licensed organisation for The Duke of Edinburgh scheme in the Bailiwick. Through DofE young people build life-long belief in themselves, leadership skills and resilience, which supports them to take on their lifes challenges. The Responsibilities

Participant and Volunteer Support:
• Provide guidance, training, and support to participants at all stages of the DofE Award
(Bronze, Silver, and Gold).
• Recruit, train, and manage a team of adult volunteers and staff to support the delivery of the
DofE program.
• Monitor the progress of participants, ensuring they meet award requirements and deadlines,
and offer advice and encouragement.
Deliver DofE Work
• Plan, coordinate and deliver high-quality DofE programmes that inspire and empower young
people.
• Support participants across all levels of the award (Bronze, Silver, Gold).
• Build strong relationships with young people, providing guidance, encouragement, and practical
support throughout their DofE journey.
• Work in a variety of settings, including schools, DofE groups and in the community.
• Promote the values of teamwork, resilience, and personal growth through all aspects of the
award.
• Deliver training and workshops as required, including navigation, expedition prep, and skill-
building.
Provide a safe and secure working environment
• Ensure all elements of the programme meet safeguarding and health & safety standards.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of participant progress and records of adult helpers.
• Be responsible for DofE-related equipment, resources, and logistics.
• Evaluate the programme regularly, capturing data and feedback to shape future delivery.

Experience / Qualifications / Education

Skills and Qualities
Essential:
• Knowledge of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusted relationships with young people.
• Proven organisational and planning skills.
• Ability to lead and motivate others.
• A full, valid driving licence.
• Confidence in facilitating group activities and working outdoors.
Desirable:
• Accredited DofE Supervisor, Assessor or Coordinator.
• First Aid Training.
• Qualification in youth work, education, or outdoor leadership.
Additional Requirements:
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by the program.
• A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for expeditions and training events.
• Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check or equivalent background check.
