The Position
Hours: 10 hours per week
Location: Hybrid : Les Beaucamps High School, Guernsey (and other locations as required) & Homeworking
Contract: 12-month contract (with potential for extension)
Wheels for You is an NGO delivering inclusive cycling in Guernsey. Our community hub offers adapted cycling sessions to individuals of all abilities. We aim to provide a safe and supportive environment where people with disabilities or mobility challenges can enjoy the benefits of cycling. We offer the use of a range of equipment, including trikes, tandems, and specially designed cycles. The sessions currently run fortnightly at Les Beaucamps High School, and we are looking to expand the programme offerings.
The Programme Coordinator will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of accessible cycling sessions. The post holder will manage volunteers, coordinate cycling sessions, and ensure all participants have a safe, enjoyable experience. This role requires strong organisational skills, a passion for inclusion, and the ability to work with diverse groups of people, including individuals with disabilities and volunteers.
The Responsibilities
Session Management:
- Coordinate and manage 1-2 accessible cycling sessions per week.
- Set up equipment, including adapted bikes and safety gear, before each session.
- Ensure that each participant has the appropriate bike for their needs.
- Supervise the session, ensuring safety standards are met and participants are supported.
- Conduct safety checks on equipment and address any issues.
Volunteer Coordination:
- Recruit, train, and manage a team of volunteers to support cycling sessions.
- Organise volunteer rotas and ensure that sessions are appropriately staffed.
- Provide ongoing support and development for volunteers, including briefings before sessions and debriefings afterward.
- Maintain accurate volunteer records, including attendance, training, and feedback.
Administration:
- Manage bookings for participants and maintain a schedule of sessions.
- Communicate with participants, carers, and support organisations to ensure smooth session attendance.
- Liaise with partner organisations and referral agencies.
- Monitor and report on attendance, volunteer hours, and session feedback.
Community Engagement:
- Work with the Wheels for You team to promote the program and increase participant and volunteer engagement.
- Develop relationships with local community groups, schools, and care organisations to expand reach.
- Support fundraising efforts and events related to Wheels for You.
Experience / Qualifications / Education
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Experience in coordinating volunteers or managing events.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse range of people.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A commitment to inclusion and accessibility.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in a community setting is desirable.
- A valid first-aid certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
- Full driving license.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in adapted sports or activities.
- Knowledge of disability awareness and inclusion best practices.
- Experience in fundraising or working with charities.
- Basic knowledge of bicycle mechanics (training can be provided).
