The Position

To support the Asset Management team in the capture, control and maintenance of asset information registers, databases, drawn records and digital data systems for major infrastructure categories such as subsea, generation and network assets.
The role requirements include the use of modern survey techniques and Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) to update and maintain asset records, working efficiently, to a high-level of accuracy and quality control.  
This can be a fast-paced environment that changes quickly, and candidates will need to be able to adapt to change and prioritising workloads
A multi-year structured training programme leading to competence in asset surveying and GIS will be provided where required 

The Responsibilities

The role is split between office-based work, such as digitising and maintaining digital asset records, and off-site work, such as the measurement and recording of network asset records in the field.  Optional 24-hour call-out availability (not as part of a formal standby rota).

  •  Report to the Asset Information Controller or designated accountable manager
  • Attend and provide site-based record surveys for the organisation to ensure asset information is captured with timeliness and accuracy according to departmental work practices.
  • Attend sites to advise, identify, trace, and mark-out network cables for contractors, the general public and other sections within the business to ensure safe working in areas where underground cables are located.
  • Update HV and LV geographic network records in accordance with approved company procedures and as part of our obligation to maintain up-to-date and accurate records.
  • Support in the update and maintenance, as required, of asset information associated with all of Guernsey Electricity’s operational systems.
  • Maintain and update cable records within the core GIS system, GE Smallworld.
  • Be aware of and comply with local legislation, specifically related to Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities, and Data Protection.

Experience / Qualifications / Education

  • Ability to multi-task and be adaptable.
  • Able to work collaboratively in a team.
  • Able to deal with clients face-to-face on-site in a respectful manner.
  • Right-to-Work in Guernsey.
  • English-speaking.
  • A background or knowledge in a technical or construction discipline with experience of working with utilities would be beneficial.
  • Minimum of ‘A’ Level or equivalent at Grade C in a relevant subject (Geography, Mathematics, Science or Technology).
  • GCSE Mathematics at Grade 4 (if applicable).
  • Basic computer skills and competent to learn new software systems such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and Smallworld.
  • Previous experience with GIS systems desired.
  • Ability to learn traditional and modern survey techniques.
  • An interest in new technologies and methods surrounding geospatial data collection.
  • Self-motivated with good organisation and communication skills.
  • Good time management in terms of meeting daily, weekly and monthly deadlines.
  • Clean, Full Driving Licence (Cat B).
  • Ability to become competent for high-voltage substation and power station access.
  • Ability to learn use of specialised cable tracing equipment
