The Position

At Guernsey Community Savings we arrange access to basic banking services for islanders who can’t open a bank account and offer financial education to those who need it.  

We are looking for a part-time Chief Executive with the drive and commitment to lead our small team.  Based in our St Peter Port office, you will report to the Board, plan and coordinate the day to day running of GCS, including helping to serve our clients, and be responsible for developing our services. 

You will have extensive experience in senior management roles in finance, and strong leadership, strategic and communication skills. You will also care deeply about our vision that no-one in the Bailiwick should be financially excluded from being part of our community. 

The Responsibilities

  • Strategic leadership: Work with the Board to develop and implement the charity’s vision and strategy in accordance with its policies and procedures.  
  • Operational management and service delivery: Work as part of the team to deliver the charity’s daily operations, ensuring they are client-focused, good quality, efficient  and cost-effective.
  • Financial performance: Together with the Treasurer, manage the charity’s financial performance including budgeting, forecasting and reporting to the Board.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including the payment service provider, funders, government agencies and clients. 
  • Team leadership: Lead the team of employed staff and volunteers, encouraging personal development and recruiting and training team members when necessary.
  • Innovation and growth: Foster innovation and identify new opportunities for providing support to the financially and socially excluded in the community.
  • Organisational culture and compliance: Foster an ethical corporate culture and comply with all legal and regulatory  requirements.

Experience / Qualifications / Education

  • Extensive experience in senior management roles in the financial services industry, preferably as a Chief Executive or in a similar capacity.
  • Proven leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning capabilities.
  • Good understanding of financial management.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Socially responsible and empathetic: Interested in helping people who are financially excluded
