The Role:
As the Head Gardener for our garden maintenance team, you’ll be working hands-on in the gardens every day. You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance tasks, all while leading and mentoring a small team. Your role will be to ensure gardens are consistently maintained to the highest standards, managing the team on-site while being an active part of the work.
The Responsibilities
Lead by example by actively working alongside your team to maintain client gardens to a high standard.
Undertake and oversee day-to-day maintenance tasks such as mowing, strimming, edging, hedge cutting, weeding, and seasonal plant care.
Ensure that gardens are kept neat, healthy, and thriving, with attention to detail in every task.
Train, mentor, and motivate team members, sharing your expertise in garden maintenance and best practices.
Work alongside the Office Manager to manage the scheduling and execution of regular maintenance tasks across multiple client gardens.
Build strong client relationships through excellent communication, ensuring their needs are met and expectations exceeded.
Ensure that the team adheres to health, safety, and environmental guidelines while maintaining the highest quality of work.
Monitor plant health and garden conditions, providing recommendations for improvements and future care.
Experience / Qualifications / Education
Previous experience in hands on garden maintenance is essential.
Practical, proactive approach to garden care and problem-solving.
Good physical fitness with a passion for working outdoors (in all weather conditions) and delivering high-quality results.
Knowledge of horticultural practices, plant care, and seasonal maintenance.
Ability to work independently while managing a team and ensuring smooth daily operations.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with clients and team members.
A valid drivers license is also essential.
Permanent residents and those who hold a valid Guernsey employment permit only. No permits will be issued for this role.
