The Position

Guernsey Youth Housing offers a general counselling and support service to assists young people, between the ages of 13- 25.

In the role of Young Persons Practitioner, you'll be providing an intensive support service for children, young people, and families by agreeing and providing interventions, which promote independence and the skills needed to live independently. 

We provide a welcoming and accessible service that respects and values young people as individuals we are professional, non-judgemental, and confidential encouraging young people to make informed healthy decisions.

In the role of a Practitioner, you'll be providing prevention work with young people who are at risk of or have issues with their substance use. This work will be delivered working 1:1 or with small groups of young people utilising evidence based programmes to support their wider personal, social, emotional and economic development. The role will also form part of a wider delivery team providing on-call support to young people living within Action for Children flats.

The Responsibilities

  • Provide and deliver a high level of care and support using appropriate interventions that are outcome focused and evidence based.
  • Lead and deliver a range of activities, including training, participation events, recruitment, social activities, and support groups etc. on a 1:1 basis or in a group setting
  • By Maintaining effective working relationships and channels of communications with colleagues and with young people, and families
  • Attending and actively participating in relevant multi-agency meetings
  • By being responsible for organising achievement of work objectives daily


Experience / Qualifications / Education

  • NVQ in Childcare, Social Care or relevant professional or therapeutic qualification or experience in working with young people within a social care or health environment
  • Ability to manage demanding workloads and change priorities quickly
  • Experience of delivering emotional wellbeing interventions to children and young people.
  • A good understanding of and experience of applying safeguarding procedures
  • Being able to Communicate equally, appropriately, and effectively with young people and their families.
  • Access to transport is essential as there will be an expectation to travel across the community.
  • Resident of Guernsey with the right to work and live in Guernsey
