The Position

We are looking for a hands-on Stock Control / Operations Supervisor to oversee stock management and purchasing across our chandlery and boatyard.

This is an active, practical and customer-facing role, rather than an office-based position. While stock ordering, purchasing and supplier liaison are key responsibilities, the successful candidate will spend most of their time on the shop floor, in the stockrooms and around the boatyard.

The role involves a varied mix of stock control, purchasing, fuel ordering, customer service, team supervision and supporting the day-to-day running of the business.

We are looking for someone who enjoys being hands-on, is well organised, has a practical approach and is happy to get involved wherever needed to keep things running smoothly.

The Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage stock levels and purchasing across the chandlery and boatyard.
  • Place supplier orders and liaise with suppliers.
  • Monitor stock levels, sales and seasonal requirements.
  • Organise and take part in stocktakes.
  • Receive, check and organise deliveries.
  • Keep stockrooms, shelves and storage areas tidy and organised.
  • Support the day-to-day running of the chandlery and boatyard.
  • Assist customers and provide product advice.
  • Support and supervise chandlery staff.
  • Ensure boatyard materials and equipment are available when needed.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and safe working practices.
  • Provide hands-on support across the business as required.

Experience / Qualifications / Education

Essential

  • Previous experience in stock control, purchasing, retail or warehouse operations.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Confident using computers, Microsoft Excel and stock management systems.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workloads.
  • A practical, hands-on approach to work.
  • Full, clean driving licence.

Additional Experience

  • Previous supervisory or team leader experience.
  • Experience in the marine, trade or retail sectors.
  • Knowledge of stock management and purchasing.
  • Health & Safety awareness or training.

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualifications in stock control, purchasing or business administration would be an advantage but are not essential.
