Full-Time Kitchen Assistant / Commis Chef

Hospitality & Catering – Back of House

SALT Craft Beer & Coffee is located in the heart of Market Square, bringing specialist craft beer and high-quality coffee to Guernsey. We showcase expertly crafted beers from small, independent UK breweries alongside quality coffee from respected roasters. Food is simple and focused: pizzas and light bites prepared by the kitchen team and served alongside the drinks.

This is quality without pretension — from morning coffee through to evening drinks.

We are recruiting a Full-Time Kitchen Assistant / Commis Chef to join our team.

This position could suit either an experienced Kitchen Assistant ready to develop their skills or a Commis Chef looking to build their experience within a professional kitchen.

The Responsibilities

  • Assist with food preparation and general kitchen duties
  • Prepare pizzas and light bites to the required standards 
  • Support the kitchen team before, during and after service 
  • Prepare ingredients and complete basic cooking tasks 
  • Follow recipes, portion controls and presentation standards 
  • Wash dishes, utensils and kitchen equipment when required 
  • Maintain clean, safe and organised workstations 
  • Assist with deliveries, stock rotation and stock control 
  • Follow food safety and hygiene procedures at all times 
  • Work efficiently and calmly during busy service periods 
  • Take pride in quality, cleanliness and teamwork

Experience / Qualifications / Education

  • Previous kitchen or food-preparation experience preferred but not essential
  • Basic cooking skills or a genuine interest in developing as a chef 
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn 
  • Good understanding of cleanliness and food safety standards 
  • Ability to follow instructions, recipes and kitchen procedures 
  • Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced team 
  • Flexible to work evenings and weekends 
  • Reliable, punctual and professional 
  • Good attention to detail and organisational skills 
  • Pride in producing quality food and supporting colleagues
