The Position

We are looking to recruit a  Head Chef to join our established catering team. The succcessful applicant oversees all kitchen operations, leads the team, maintains food quality and consistency, and ensures the kitchen runs efficiently, safely, and profitably. They will be accountable for menu execution, cost control, compliance, and the overall culinary reputation of the establishment.

The Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Team Management — Directs the kitchen team, sets standards, trains staff, manages performance, and fosters a positive, disciplined working environment.
  • Menu Development — Designs and updates menus, specials, and seasonal offerings aligned with the brand’s identity and customer expectations.
  • Quality Control — Ensures every dish meets established specifications for taste, presentation, and portion size.
  • Operational Oversight — Manages daily kitchen operations including prep, service, cleaning schedules, and workflow efficiency.
  • Food Safety & Compliance — Maintains strict hygiene standards, ensures adherence to HACCP, allergen protocols, and all local food safety regulations.
  • Stock & Cost Management — Controls ordering, stock rotation, waste reduction, GP targets, and supplier relationships.
  • Budget & Profitability — Works within financial targets, monitors food cost percentages, and contributes to overall business profitability.
  • Collaboration — Works closely with Front of House, management, and owners to ensure smooth service and consistent customer experience.
  • Crisis & Problem Solving — Handles issues quickly and professionally, from equipment failures to staff shortages.

Experience / Qualifications / Education

Formal Qualifications Needed (indicative):City & Guilds Level 3 Advanced Professional Cookery / City & Guilds 706-1 & 706-2 / or time served chef / and Level 3 Food Hygiene Cert (or working towards)

Experience (indicative):Qualification and 2+ years experience in a similar role and 4+ years experience in various chef kitchen roles or no qualification and 8+ years kitchen experience, 3+ as head chef
