The Position
The IT Solutions Specialists team are responsible for implementing and supporting secure, reliable and highly effective information, operational and communications systems that enable Guernsey Electricity Ltd to meet its business plans and achieve its objectives. This role forms part of the support team that is digitally transforming the business to meet the needs of the energy transition.
The Responsibilities
- Evaluate, implement and configure key IT/OT systems and create/maintain processes and procedures for a range of IT matters.
- Prepare, implement and monitor IT progress against long- and medium-term strategic plans on order to meet the demands of Guernsey Electricity’s corporate business strategy.
- Own, manage and maintain business IT solutions.
- Support GELs software/infrastructure roadmap with the appropriate business engagement model for all supported systems.
- Ensure that IT Solutions adhere to GEL’s IT governance framework.
- Proactively seek, identify and actively promote technology opportunities within the business.
- Be an active participant in the IT Management of Change process.
- Monitor and report against the team’s KPIs and achievements on a monthly basis, presenting this back to the Business Leadership Team as required.
- Ensure that IT compliance obligations (e.g. software licensing) and information security best practices are developed, maintained and monitored to meet appropriate laws and regulations (including GDPR) using recognised local, UK or international standards and best practice as necessary.
Experience / Qualifications / Education
- Qualified to degree level or equivalent (preferred) with a suitable IT professional qualification.
- Self-starter with a solutions-based approach.
- A minimum of 5 years’ IT experience in a development or application support role.
- Exposure to cloud-based technology such as Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, Microsoft Azure and PowerBI or similar.
- ITIL or Prince 2 qualifications would be an advantage.
- Ability to make and take responsibility for sound and far-reaching decisions on major technical and application delivery issues.
- Prior utility experience would be advantageous including exposure to SCADA or metering systems.
- Excellent communication skills and an analytical approach to problem solving.
- Ability to communicate and work with people effectively at all levels.
