The Position

Elizabeth College is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Estates Manager who will be prepared to deliver Elizabeth College’s vision for the whole campus, with effect from October 2025. The post-holder will ensure optimum use of quality facilities, secure best value operational costs and put in place systems and processes to support future sustainability. The post-holder will possess broad leadership skills in order to develop existing staff and shape the estates staff team of the future. This role is suited to a pro-active, determined and motivated individual with high levels of empathy who is able to make clear and logical decisions and communicate these effectively. Relevant qualifications and experience will clearly aid candidates in their application; however, the right attitude and personal attributes are also important. 

This role is permanent, full-time and is a year-round role. Working hours are 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 5.00pm, with 1 hour break for lunch.

The Responsibilities

Typical duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

Main Duties & Responsibilities

·         To compile and deliver an annual programme of planned minor and major projects in conjunction with the Bursar and the College’s professional advisors

·         To ensure Health & Safety compliance across the College campus supported by the Maintenance Supervisor

·         To lead the Estates team with direct accountability for the following support services: cleaning, caretaking, landscape gardening, grounds, maintenance (planned and reactive), transport, site security, pest control, waste management

·         To maintain and strategically develop the College campus in compliance with the Master Estates Plan, School Development Plan, Independent School Inspectorate Standards and local legislation requirements

·         To recruit, induct, develop and manage the performance of staff in the Estates team

·         To promote efficiency and flexibility in the use of available resources, undertaking regular contract/service reviews to secure cost-effective solutions

·         To proactively manage risk including business continuity planning, creating and updating risk assessments, and co-ordinating the College’s response to external inspections / audits / assessments

·         To manage the estates-related budgets, adhering to financial policies and procedures in respect of procurement, expenditure and record-keeping

·         To own, and regularly update, the College’s asset inventory

·         To proactively engage with the whole College community to provide information about the work of the Estates team

Experience / Qualifications / Education

Essential requirements:

  • Relevant operational and/or management experience gained in a mixed/complex operational role/s
  • A proven record of effective and efficient team and resource management
  • Experience of managing and promoting Health & Safety

Desirable requirements:

  • Relevant operational and/or management qualifications
  • Industry-recognised qualification in building and construction
  • Health & Safety qualifications (NEBOSH/IOSH)
  • Experience in building and construction
