The Position
Purpose of the Role
Youth work supports young people to explore their values, beliefs, ideas and issues; develop voice and influence; acquire a set of practical or technical skills and competencies, which will all help them realise their full potential.
A Youth Worker offers support and opportunities for informal learning across a variety of settings to support a young person’s personal, social, emotional and educational development. It begins with the development of a unique, challenging and developmental relationship with young people.

groups and within education.

• Promoting the voice of young people.
• Ability to work as part of a team promoting positive team culture be bringing energy and
enthusiasm to the role.
The Responsibilities
In more detail:
Deliver Youth Work
• Facilitate the social, personal and physical development of young people through
informal education.
• Organise and run community programs, clubs and groups.
• Help young people understand values and ideas.
• Build the confidence and life skills of young people.
• Give advice on education and training.
• Build sustainable, therapeutic relationships with disadvantaged or at-risk youth.
• Be sensitive to cultural and individual differences and needs.
Experience / Qualifications / Education
Skills and Qualities
Essential:
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Proven organisational skills
• An ability to record numerical and written information well (a grade C or above in GCSE
English & Maths is preferable)
• Proven ability to contribute to work as part of a team as well as the ability to use own
initiative and work independently
• Experience of working with young people in an informal setting
• A basic understanding of youth work principles
• A valid driving licence.
Desirable Experience:
• First Aid Training
• Relevant qualification to working with young people
(i.e Youth Work Level 2, NVQ working with children and young people)
