The Position

The Clinical Lead Nurse – The post holder will act as a clinical role model and a key point of contact for the nursing team, providing leadership, support with daily operational and clinical queries, and guidance on professional practice. They will foster a positive learning culture, support workforce development and succession planning, and contribute to the safe and effective delivery of nursing services across the practice.

 This role supports the growth, development, and clinical excellence of the nursing workforce within the practice. Working closely with the Clinical Manager and Practice Management Team, the post holder will lead on staff training, mentorship, competency development, and continuing professional development (CPD), ensuring that nursing staff are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and confidence required to deliver safe, effective, and patient-centred care.


The Responsibilities

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Operational Support and Clinical Coordination

·       Act as the first point of contact for nursing staff regarding day-to-day operational and clinical queries.

·       Provide guidance and support to nursing team members in managing workload, clinical priorities, and patient care issues.

·       Support the smooth day-to-day operation of nursing services, escalating significant concerns, risks, or staffing issues to the Clinical Manager as appropriate.

·       Assist with the coordination of daily staffing requirements to ensure safe and effective service delivery.

·       Support rota management by identifying staffing gaps, facilitating appropriate cover arrangements, and communicating changes to the nursing team.

·       Provide advice and support regarding clinical protocols, pathways, policies, and practice procedures.

·       Respond to operational issues affecting the nursing team and work collaboratively with clinicians, administrative teams, and Practice Management to resolve concerns promptly.

·       Monitor the availability and readiness of clinical rooms, equipment, vaccines, and supplies, escalating issues where necessary.

·       Support the implementation of service improvements, operational changes, and new ways of working within the nursing team.

·       Facilitate effective communication between the nursing team, Clinical Manager, GPs, and Practice Management Team

·       Deputise for the Clinical Manager on operational matters as required, ensuring continuity of nursing services and maintaining high standards of patient care.


Experience / Qualifications / Education

  • Essential
    ·         Minimum of two years' experience in Primary Care or General Practice Nursing.
    ·         Experience supporting, mentoring, or developing nursing staff.
    ·         Experience delivering training, supervision, or competency assessments.
    ·         Demonstrated competence in core practice nursing services and chronic disease management.
     
    Desirable
    ·           Experience leading educational programmes or workforce development initiatives.
    ·           Experience of quality improvement, audit, or service development projects.
